|Onan Generator problem||Drew||9-22-10|
|Onan Generator Starts up but will only stay running if I Hold electronic choke in closed position with manual vaccum hose removed from carburetor base.|
Onan Generator Model Emerald Plus Genset 4000 model#4BGEFA26100N Starts up but will only stay running if I Hold electronic choke in closed position with manual vaccum hose removed from carburetor base. We just purchased this class c 1989 Ford Jamee only 36,000 original miles and have been trying to get the generator running. This generator is not original and have a reciept that a new one was installed on this rv 10/22/1997 so it does not have many hours. There was also a new fuel pump put on the rv itself 1 month ago. We have did the following on this generator so far: new spark plugs, air filter, cleaned carburetor bowl and float as it was gummed up pretty good, checked oil and voltage and all seems good. After doing all this we got the generator to start up and run properly and even drove it up to get gas and drove it around for about 30 minutes with the generator running to get it good and cleaned out as we don't know how long it had been since it ran last. It had no problems and never shut off. Then about a week later went out to start it up and prepare for a camping trip and it would not stay running just started up and immediately shut off, unless i did what I refrenced above. Is the vaccum hose to carberator when running supposed to have vaccum to the manual choke?
Any Suggestions, since I had it running before it's got to be something simple, however I have little knowledge on generators.
I would value and appreciate any help or suggestions.
