Allion transmission htb 748 Ron 4-4-02  
I am running a van hools coach 1992 t-840 with allison htb 748 tranny, slips between 1st and 2nd then seems to have a lack of power because it shfts to quick, i am in fourth gear bfore 25 miles per hour, it shifts ok except for that on sloip runs fine over 50mph, no brown or burning smell in the tranny oil.what could be the problem, can anyone reccomend a place to get a used one or rebuilt installed, if its a bad tranny.i am in the ny area

In valvebody try changing 2nd clutch trimmer valve,use 23014047.springs 1st clutch trimmer outer use 23013909 and inner 23014200. Spring 23013754 2nd outer.

It sounds as if you need to pay a visit to your local Allison dealer.

Your transmission is electronically controlled. You can hook it up to a diagnositc computer and your transmission will tell the technician what the problem might be.

When you consider the cost of doing a R&R, the cost of doing a diagnosis doesn't sound like such a bad use of $$.

sorry i just found out it is a ht740 and allison said the unit is bad.

Check the price for them to do a rebuild vs. buying a reman unit - sometimes they'll suprise you. Sometimes.
