Chrysler A518 Trans Swap John 4-28-02
Has anyone ever swapped the 518 trans in place of a 727 pre computer? I think I have it figured out but need some more info on trans control voltages for the 89 to 91 A518 trannys. Any info is appreciated.
Re: Chrysler A518 Trans Swap matt 6-28-06
Hey there;
as far as I know the 89 to 93/4 A500 and A518 trannies were HYDRAULIC valve bodies not electronic. the only electronic input is the overdrive off button usually mounted in the dash.The rest of the wiring is sensors and sending units.
beyond 1994 they went with electronic valve bodies and i have no clue. From what i've heard the 95 and up are far better transmission provided you step up to the stand alone control units...but that's diesel and toweing
and I've only dealt with the 2wd gas jobs.
Personally I'm looking at swapping an A518RH into my 1991 Dakota in place of the stock A500 42 RH for longevities sake.
any comments appreciated!
Matt
