4L80E Rusty Y 8-28-09
I have a 2002 1500 hd 4x4 with the 4L80E and when pulling my trailer {30 ft travel trailer} uphill my trans temp will climb to approx 270 degree's then the temp will drop on downhill and flat gorund. I moved the header pipe to the position of the newer pickup's but no change in trans temp. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
Re: 4L80E BUBBA THE BUS TECH 8-29-09
Nothing unusual, the truck is loaded to or beyond its rated weight and the trans gets hot. Not "OMG its going to blow" hot, but hotter than is good. So, trans cooler, reduce stress by running slower, synthetic trans oil (reduces heat from mechanical friction), lock the shifter into the lower gear to prevent slippage, never tow on hill in OD, lock into 3rd instead. ( I can lecture for twenty minutes on this topic alone) Finally plan your trip so you don't have to push the equipment. Good Luck and have fun out there
