Annoying tone - air system? Jeff 3-13-05
On my neoplan an440 transit, it now sometimes produced an extrememly annoying tone that can give one an instant headache. it's not that it's so loud, but the frequency really gets to you. because of the frequency, it's also somewhat hard to detect the source, but i believe it is coming from part of the air system mid-way under the bus at or near the air tanks. twice today when it released air, the tone stopped further supporting my thoughts that was the source. any ideas as to the cause and fix? thanks!

Sometimes the check valve on the wet tank, or the first tank from the air compressor will make a pounding sound corillating with the compressor. This was evident in trucks with the big one cylinder Cummins compressor. If this is the case you could try replacing the valve or make a kind of muffler in line from the compressor to the tank that will soften the banging sounds. Good Luck, TomC
