What is the most powerful new engine and automatic transmission refit that can be performed on a 4106? Also, after the new engine and transmission replacement, how difficult will it be to keep a nice 4106 up and safely and reliably running?
Hi Dean. I am no expert but I do know that you probably have an 8-71 now.If you do I know that a 6V-92 is suppose to fit with some modification. If you already have a 8V-71 in it I would stay with that. You need to go with the V730 automatic trans.I have a 8V-71 & really like it.I myself would not spend too much money on an old coach.Mine is a 63 Prevost,36 FT,2 axel.I have the 6 speed manual,Spicer trans.Let me know what you decide to do. Good luck,Doug.
I have a 4905A, Ihave 16,000 miles on my fresh rebuild, I live in michigan and just came home from my vacation to the florida keys, about 3700 miles round trip,I put a propane injection unit from BullyDog,WOW, 1.8 to2.3mpg better milage and 80hp.more torque like you wouldn't believe,I averaged 7.8-8.7mpg not bad,and plenty of hill climbing power.I have an Allison auto with no modification oh yea. I also was pulling a s.u.v. I have an 8V71 2stroke, it doesn't go as good as a series 60, but the propane is progressive with boost so at idle no propane is used, it takes 1-3 seconds once you floor it to feel the propane come on strong,
