About 5 months ago I purchased a 1984 MCI-9 Bus. I started the bus today, and let it warm up, but then it stalled and the low oil light and engine overheat lights came on...HELP! Do I just have to add more oil, I was told that it was the nature of the Detroit 8V71's to leak a little bit of oil, and the bus has been sitting for the past 3 months...Thanks...
Check the kysor temp sensor mounted in the thermostat housing. High coolant temp will shut the bus down and then your low oil light would come on. So you could have an actual high temp problem or a bad sending unit.
i havent worked on an 84 in a while but the high temp light may come on with the ign switched on, like an idiot light test. Turn the ign on and without starting it see which lights are lit.
You didnt say how long it ran for. If you have a problem in the ignition circuit the bus would run until air pressure built up. Ck that the rear run switch is in the right position.
the 92 oil leaks are running leaks and are due to the dissimilar metals which expand and contract differently.
