I have a 1975 fishbowl (not for much longer though). It is apparently common for them to be hard to get into gear. Here's what I do:
Try starting it in gear. The brakes should hold the bus (if not, adjust brakes immediately!!) This usually works, but it's a pain to have to stop/start the buss to back up.
Sometimes I get it into reverse first (seems to be easier, almost always works) then, smmothly and quickly shift it into forward. This usually works, especially after the engine is warm.
Now, if you want a great deal on a clean rolling chassis 1975 GMC fishbowl, mine is for sale. The engine is bad but the rest is in great shape. Seats already removed!
Good luck! If you buy it, take the engine too. You can't even get a core for $200. |
