Re: 82 GMC RTS II by Wayne
Post New Message Bruce, Rattles are very common in the early RTS. ALL RTS' are air suspension. The series'01,02&03 had independant front suspension. The '04 and later models reverted back to the square beam front suspension. The tires are supposed to be set to 85 lbs front and all rears. If it is lower the tire temperture rises and causes blowout. Orginally equipted with radials in transit setup, it was found the stop and go traffic (to much heat from the brakes) was too much for radials and they would blow out the sidewalls. DO NOT PUT RADIALS ON THE RTS. The fumes are from a pair of hatches behind and under the rear bench seat. Use a closed cell high density gasket material 1/2" to 5/8" thick to seal them. They are a super bus, I worked on the for many years. I am retiring next year and am going to spend the first two years turning one into a motor home and travel.
