RTS 4:10 ring & pinion Jeff 3-9-03
I am in Virginia and am interested in finding a 4:10 ring and pinion gear for my 1988 TMC RTS-06 with a 6v92TA & 731v drive tranny. The parts numbers are RTS# 2055047 or Rockwell A-38152-1 for the 4:10 ratio. Any leads? Please E Mail me at BubbaJePH@aol.com Thank you!

The 4.10 gears were for the suburban type coach not the city coach. They were special order during the entire production of the RTS from 1978 until end of production. Rockwell still supports them.

Hey...

I am not sure of the exact details.. but.. I believe you can use just about ANY V-drive gears.. I have a 1990 Grumman 870 and am in search of the same outcome.. 70mph @ 10mpg :).. I found a local yard with a bunch of TDH/Fishbowls so I'm pursuing it..$250 for the chunk, you pull it style.. $350 to have it handed over.. which is a VERY GOOD price !! next cheapest is Nimcobus.com at $750 !!! and they don't have ANY :(...

but first my air starter HAS GOT TO GO !!

Did the fishbowl rear end work?
Re: RTS 4:10 ring & pinion Geoff 3-23-03
You can't use "any" V-drive rear end and think it will interchange. The RTS uses a late model rockwell rearend, and the older GMC's (intercity and transit) used something else. However, it is possible to useV-drive rear end gears out of later model transit, like a Flxible, in an RTS. But finding a 4:10 is tough.

For V-drive differentials you might try Coach Maintenance Company. Contact info at

http://www.coachmaintenance.com/index.htm

They had some, don't know if they were 4:10, don't know if they still have 'em, but cheap to ask.
