Where are you finding RT-52? We are just now thinking of this process. We live in Hawaii, but are considering a purchase and conversion of something in the 30' range, and your idea sounds interesting. What price range are the RT-52s? and have you started the conversion process yet?

The question you have to ask yourself is why do you want a short bus?

: Mark, thanks for the reply. Right now, I'm full-timing in a 19' Chinook class B motorhome, in the middle of San Francisco. I'd love to have more room, a stronger engine and a much more stable platform, but a 40 footer would be a bit unwieldy (and conspicuous). I'd love to be able to tow my small pickup, and also to be able to mount a motorcycle rack on the back. As far as space is concerned, I'd like to have a permanent bed across the back, more storage, and a more open feel to the remaining space. The RT-52 seems beefy enough for a conversion and is (I think) spacious enough for my needs. I also like the fact that the entire length of the bus represents useable interior space. I will be driving it daily, and need access to some tight spaces.

I've just started investigating buses, and the RT-52 is the only one I've seen that is readily available, under 30' long, and doesn't have 6' of hood out front.

Should I be looking at anything else?

Thanks again,
Jim Gardner

Sorry about the delay in answering, but I don't have ready access to the internet these days. There are listings on the internet by companies specializing in bus sales. Fifteen year old specimens have been listed for $7,500, five year olds for $25,000. I haven't as yet even visited a bus lot, so no, I haven't started the conversion.

You can check www.chancecoach.com for more on the RT-52. The Gillig Spirit is a 27-footer, and there are lots of 30 foot candidates. Good luck finding choosing one.

Jim
