RTSII Phil Toler 5-25-99
I am getting ready to purchase a 1983 RTSII for an "entertainer style" conversion. The price is $3000.00. I am new to the transit bus scene. Is there anything that should keep me away from this deal. It has an Detroit 8V92 and an Allison HT740 trans. Total coach miles is 237,000. Seems to be in good shape. Any info would be of great help. Thanks!

How sure are you of the spec's ? If this bus really has a HT740 transmission it has allready had a massive and very expensive rebuild. Like almost all Transits, the RTS was built with tranverse engine and V730 3 speed transmission. I would also be very careful of the declared mileage, perhaps there should be a one in front of your figure. Dave.

And it could be as high as a 2million+ figure. Most of the RTS coaches were put to heavy duty transit use and many that are surplused because it will mean $50-100K to bring them back to running in transit service which the federal grant programs do not usually help with.
