|Sounds like the turbo to me...if you're not blowing black smoke on a incline grade, then your engine isn't loading up...that turbo should howl, and black soote should be rolling out. The check is simple if the access is easy. Remove the air duct (hose) from the turbo, should be a v-band clamp with a 7/16 type loc-nut...pull it, the move the turbine blades by hand...if they turn and are black they're good, if it has white ash and its hard to turn...it's bad.
