6v92TA Detroit lack of power Tom Hunt 5-10-08
PLEASE HELP!I have a real power problem, NO POWER on grades in my bus. I rebuilt the engine and it runs good, sounds good, doesn't smoke, but I can not get over 10 to 15 mph on a 4% grade. I have put in both new fuel and air filters and have checked the fuel return to the tank and it is flowing in excess of 1 gallon per min. I have checked the air pressure on the airbox to be zero at idle and 14 psi at 1800 rpm. Does the pressure increase with load? My manuel shows the sirbox pressure should be 24 psi at full load. I don't believe that these conditions are normal or are they? I am sure I should have more power than I am getting on grades. How can I check the turbocharger? I have never worked on one. Thanks for any help received.

Not too sure about your airbox pressures but you can pull the air outlet tube coming off your turbo and look for any evidence of oil. this means the turbo oil seal is leaking. also inspect the turbo fin ( you will see it with the outlet tube off) see if the bearing has play or the fins are busted off! if not your turbo is most likely ok, You may also have a bad Blower governor, There are weights, bearings and shafts inside the governor that wear out and will cause symptoms like this. good luck

Thank You Mike, also do you know size injectors should be used on this 6v92ta to get the maximum power.
