Re: Awning setup for 97 Starcraft tent trailer by V.A.
Post New Message Before attempting to set up the awning, unfasten the roof latches and raise the camper roof to about shoulder height. Unzip the storage cover, remove the poles and unroll the awning to its full length.

1. Adjust the uprights to the desired height by first twisting the telescoping sections in opposite directions (counterclockwise to unlock the cam latch).

2. Slide the sections in or out to reach the desired height, and twist the sections clockwise to lock them in place. The inner poles can be marked with an indelible marker so that all the uprights can be easily adjusted to the same height each time the awning is setup.

3. Start at the center of the awning; insert the pin end of the spring-loaded rafter into hole in the top of the upright and place the end of the pin into the hole in the awning crossbar.

4. Hold the spring-loaded rafter against the crossbar so the pin will not slip out and compress the rafter until the padded end can be placed against the sideboard just touching the awning. Once the pressure is released, spring pressure will be strong enough to hold the rafter in place.

5. When all the rafters and uprights have been installed, raise the camper roof to full height. This completes
the installation.

Note. for added security or in windy weather, the uprights should be anchored to the ground with hook stakes.

Note. The awning is not designed to withstand winds greater than 15 mph. Roll up your awning if you suspect winds of this magnitude approaching. If it is raining, lower one of the front corner posts about 4" to allow the water to escape.

This is verbatum from my owners manual......hope it helps.
