Tahoe vs Expedition Andy Marek 4-29-03
I am looking to purchase my first travel trailer (31ft and 6500lbs dry weight). My wife and I are spending 2 months to go from Illinois to Oregon and back. I would appreciate any info on whether the Tahoe or Expedition would better handle the load. Thank you

I have experience drivng the Tahoe and the Expedition. Although, not with towing. The Expedition is a piece of junk. It is slow, not manuverable, rattles down the road. The tahoe has much more pickup, handles better.

I own a 1999 Expedition with the 5.4L engine and tow a 23ft Award that loaded is about 4,000 lbs..Does a great job, but going beyond say 5,000lbs would put a strain on the vehicle and I certainly would not recommend it...
Cannot speak for a Tahoe, but there probably in the same class range..

With a Tahoe you could go up to about 5500 lbs, although it is rated for more. It all depends whether or not you are getting a tow package, whether you have 3.42 or 3.73.

I Have a 2000 Expedition with a 5.4.2 wheel drive and pull a 5000 lb Trail-Lite. This is a excellent tow vehicle. I recommed though you find a two wheel drive with the auto-level. I live in No. Calf and you cannot go any direction without going up a mountain and it does a great job.

Good Luck.

I have a 2003 z71 Tahoe and I pull a prowler weighing 7200 lbs without a problem. I pull it up the mountain about every other weekend and have not had a single problem.
