|5th wheel towing||snowind||4-11-03|
I have a 33' wildrness 5th wheel. We've always used a long bed pickup for towing. Can a shortbed pickup be used without cab clearance problems?
Thanks for any help.

I am just getting into 5th Wheel trailering. I am not familiar with who make a good problem free 5th W hitch system. I always thought that Reese was a good name, however a friend of mine has one with a Cedar Creek model and he has trouble unhook due to binding.
I would appreciate recommendations.

I wouldn't use a shortbed for towing a 5th wheel. You'll have trouble putting the hitch over the rear axle. Then the clearance problem comes into effect.

I have a 95 Wilderness 22' fifth wheel
and use a 97 Ford F150 super cab short box to pull the trailer.
There is plenty of clearance between the cab and trailer, even on the tightest turn, because on this Wilderness model the hitch extends out approx 12" from the front of the trailer.
I would suggest you consult a qualified RV hitch installer first, because the mounting position in the truck box is critical.
