Spring bushings & shocks bill jacobs 3-5-03  
The nylon bushings wore out on my 31' Dutchman causing the axle to run out of alignment, result one tire blistered and the tread wore out on one side. I was told that nylon was all they had to replace the bushings but I could get greasable pins. You don't grease nylon. After some checking I found an Industrail supply place and ordered bronze bushings with the correct OD & ID but had to be cut to length. These can be pressed into the spring eye with a C-clamp. I then reamed them out to insure no burrs and inserted greaseable pins, so now I can give them a couple of shots of grease to keep dirt out and lube the bushings.
I also decided to install shocks on each axle at the same time. I cut the heads off some grade 8 bolts and welded them to them bottom spring plate for the bottom mount. Then with the trailer on jack stand and the axle hanging with out the tires I placed the shock on the bottom mount and put a marker in the upper eye to place a arc at each location. Checking for obstacles inside and outside the frame locate top mounts holes equally for each axle. I angled the front axle shocks forward and the rear to the back. I used grade 8 bolts and used bushings so the shock was perpendicular to the axle.
The trailer pulls better than it did when new. The bounce on concrete roads has been almost eliminated. I think all trailers should be built with shocks already installed.
Monroe had a web site with info on choosing the right shock. I was cheaper to order the shock thru an auto supply rather than the RV dealer. I had less than $400 in parts and did the work myself, outside with cold weather. The hardest part for the do-it-yourselfer is reaming the bushings but you could get by with a drill bit (properly sharped or new)and plenty of lubrication.

Bronze is a "tried and true" bearing material. I am sure one of our distributors is in your are, They would likely have a Bronze bushing in stock to fit your application. In the event you need something that is not standard, call me, we'll see what we can do.
