We've had a 2000 American Star for a little over a year. We're very pleased. It's not the best unit out there but it's in the upper 25%. We took it on a four week trip last Spring and it performed admirably.

Ours has several upgrades that make a vast improvement over standard equiptment. We have a rubber roof. Standard is one piece aluminum. I've heard too many bad things about aluminum roofs. We have heavier axles and 16" wheels. Make sure the one you are looking at has sufficient carrying capacity. RV Consumer Group (Highly recommended!) says standard axles on some American Stars are too lightweight.

Features you'll love. Black tank flush. Heated tanks. Heated basement storage. Excellent heavy-duty slide mechanism. Top of shower is sealed between the shower stall and wall (many aren't). Solid shower floor (step in the shower in many cheaper units...shower floors flex a lot). Well built cabinets (not the best but better than most).

Ours appears to be well built and I have no reservations about recommending the brand.

Dear Newmar,
Could I get a picture and/or a layout of an American Star Newmar 30' with one slide 5th wheel please?
Thank you so much!
Shelly

I'm glad to hear the last comment. We just bought a '98 American Star, 31'. We looked at alot of different 5th wheels, both new and used, and we thought that, for the price, the American Star was a good deal. I wasn't sure about how it would perform, and we'll pick ours up 7/18.
