|Casita electric brakes||Lorraine||8-30-02|
|I just purchased a 16 ft Casita with electric brakes. My tow vehicle (1996 Ford Explorer) doesn't have the in dash controls for the brakes. Is this necessary/do I even need the electric brakes? Thanks for any help. Lorraine|

I have a 2001 17' Casita and pull with a 99 Explorer.
You probably need brakes, and should want them. Check your local state law. Most states require trailer brakes above a certain weight. CA requires brakes on the 17 Casita.
Not sure about 16.
Casita pulls nicely, but I wouldn't want a trailer pushing me down a mountain with no trailer brakes.

|Hi Jim, |
Thanks for the info. I got this graphic image of my Explorer going down Mt. Rushmore and being passed by a familiar looking 16 ft Casita. Yes, I think I will get the brakes. The trailer is equpipped with electric brakes however the Explorer is not. Do they sell kits so that you can do it yourself? Thanks in advance for any more info!
