HELP! Towing a jeep Jason 7-29-02
Could someone please tell me the truth about towing a Jeep Wrangler on all 4 wheels? I'm looking at buying a Wrangler to pull behing my 30' Safari Class C. I'd would like to buy a Auto Tranny, but all signs i can find tell me i will need a driveshaft diconnect. I visited the local dealer tonite and the 20 year old kid told me that I can tow a jeep on all 4 with no modifcations to the auto tranny?? Does he know what he's talking about? I've towed a Bronco II with a manual tranny for many years, with no problems. Should I stick with the manual? Anybody thats towed a Wrangler, please respond.

As a full time RVer, I have towed my '99 Wrangler (auto tranny) for about 10000 miles without any problem other than paint damage due to crap thrown by other cars & trucks. I tow behind a 35' Winnebago Chieftain with a Ford V-10. Be sure to follow the owners manual info for towing 4 on the ground. Also be sure that your RV has the capability to handle the extra weight. Also, plan on spending about $1000 for an auxillary braking system for the Jeep when you are towing. Will save your RV brakes and keep your insurance from being invalidated if you ever have an accident.

We have a Jeep Wrangler Sahara, loaded, and with an automatic. The vehicle is approved from the factory for 4 wheel towing with no problem at all. Details are in the owners manual also, but for now, all you do is put the vehicle in PARK, and move the transfer case to DISENGAGE. Thats it! By the way, we are selling our 2000 Jeep. All set up for towing w roadmaster and brakemaster for aux braking.

I used to pull the drive shafts on mine, but check the owners manual. The trans have changed and the owners manual will give you the answer on towing for the jeep you buy or have.

I just got my wrangler with Auto and have been towing it just fine. I now want to wire the lights rather than use the magnet type can anyone tell me if I'll need to put dioded in the circit or can I just splice into the wires for the lights?
