1999 coleman tent trailer roof damage Adam Strojek 5-12-08
I have a 1999 coleman mesa tent trailer with a hard plastic roof. Small cracks have appeared and quickly spread with the change in temperature to the point where pieces are falling off. Is this a normal condition with this style of roof and is there a repair to stop the cracking. Any info will be helpful. Thank you

Hey, did either of you get a response on this issue. I have the same sort of problem. the seam where the edge meets the top along the back is buckling and separating because of the heat where I live. Was hoping to find a good solution.

Hi Adam
Did you get any response? I just bought a used Coleman and noticed some cracks alos. i was told that you have to replace the whole roof.

My water damage problems extend to the front and back. I just got a royal blow off from the company. Bottom line is I have a 2000 Mesa trailer with a good roof which sounds like what you need. Any interest in a roof - junk trailer included?

I have a 2002 Sun Valley that has developed a hairline crack on both sides of the top, in the "gutter", running from not quite the front to not quite the back. On the recommendation of a sailboat owner friend I have put 3M Marine Adhesive/Sealant Fast Cure 5200 on the cracks being sure to press it in as much as possible. Also, there were two relatively major cracks on the trailer lower body front and rear where the top comes down to meet the body- I've tried the same stuff on those cracks too. So far so good on all. The sealant seems to be tough but flexible. We'll see over time if it works.

My 1999 is cracking every where. Top ends, anything plastic. Total junk. Now the cranking mechanism is broken. Do you have to remove the rear of the trailer to get at the crank?

I have a 96 coleman and had numerous cracks that appeared, some up to 3 feet long. I tried many fixes, but none seemed to work more than a month or so. Finally, it was to the point of either trying something new or trashing the camper. I peeled off the white ABS outer shell. Underneath was a very thin layer of fiberglass which was covering a foam layer. To make a long story short, I used white spay-on bed liner and so far it has worked fine. It's only been 1 month though.

I have a 2001 Coleman Westlake that has developed hairline cracks on the left side of the top of the trailer. Having read many of the weblogs, I decided to use the 3M Marine Adhesive/Sealant Fast Cure 4000 UV to do the job. I drilled a 1/16 hole at the ends of the cracks in order to keep the cracks from spreading. I must of had over 60 hairline cracks along the roof top. The time it took to drill and spread in the white sealant took approximately 2 hours. I just used my fingers and a clean cloth to keep the surface clean. We will see how durable the sealant lasts but this appears to do the job and was an easy and inexensive fix. The sealant was white and blends well with the ABS roof top.

For those of you who used the marine-use the fix still working? I am looking at buying a 1998 Coleman Grandview, but it has those cracks at each of the four side corners of the trailer top. I won't buy it unless there's a "fix" that works. Thanks for any feedback.
