What alternator do I have? If I need to post a picture, I will...but here is a description.
1984 Thomas S1700 International 72 pass. Skoolie with a 345cu gas engine. This was a
nothern bus, rear heater, no ac.
The Alternator (which is missing the ID plate) is large. It seems to have a built-in ceramic part which I assume is a regulator. A SINGLE wire comes off the unit, and it is of large guage (4or6) which goes to the firewall - attached to a selonoid. The + of the battery connects there, as well as the rest of the electrical harness.
I have a 90amp battery isolator, but I don't want to overload it. What bothers me is the wire that comes from the alternator is MUCH bigger that the terminals of the isolator. Could this be an alternator that is over 90amp? If I wire it according to instructions could I burn it out? ...or more to the point, could burning out the isolator screew up the alternator. I have to be on the road ASAP or I would take the bus to a garage to test the alternator on a meter.
Quite sure it's a large frame,,may be a leece neville, any truck part place will tell you just by a glance to it!!!
good luck wrtench
