I've purchased a small bus
conversion from my neighbor.
It currently has no provision
for heat. Built-in forced air
heaters seem pretty expensive,
and apparently use a fair
amount of DC to operate. I
like the idea of a catalytic
heater, but I'm concerned
about the safety of using one
in an enclosed space. Does
anyone have experience using
a catalytic heater? Thanks
for your help!
I've never had one myself but a buddy of mine had one in his 32 foot Skoolies. It worked great except the Oxygen sensor kept shutting the unit down. This is good and bad, the good part is that it wouldn't let the oxygen go below save levels, the bad part is that we live in Montana. Depending on where you live, you might get away with leaving a vent or window part way open. Up here, in Montana, that defeats the purpose of having a heater at all.
These heaters were OUTLAWED in many states for a reason.
If you want to join a Victum Group and begin voting for a living , get one.
The other option is the CAT brand, vented heater that uses only 1/8 Amp , so is no problem for bat drain.
Some folks have used the Cozy heaters found in a GRANGER CATALOG, BUT THEY WERE MADE FOR STATIONARY HOUSE TRAILERS AND THE mfg DOESNT THINK THERE SAFE IN AN rv:Many have been installed in Skoolie or Hertz rental truck level of conversions.
Take a look at PHRED TINSETH stuff in the Escapees site for good low cost conversion. info .
