AmTran and Genesis quality? Christopher 3-27-00
My local school districts in SW Ohio use AmTran and Genesis busses, and I assume their used ones are sold off periodically.

I'm only familiar with makes like Blue Bird, Carpenter and Wayne. Does anyone know the overall quality and parts availability for AmTran and Genesis? Where are they built?

Thanks,
Christopher

Ward/AmTrans/Genesis have their moments just like every other manufacturer. But the adage you get what you pay for applies here as well. If a Crown is the Cadillac of buses and the BB and Thomas are Mercury/Pontiac of buses, the Ward/AmTrans/Genesis is the Yugo.

Ward buses from a long time ago were pretty good buses but they have gone through many owners and changes in the last few years. Now that Navistar has a controlling interest, the quality has gone way up and they are up to "Ford" or "Chevy" quality now.

Most of the buses are assembled and/or manufactured in Conway, Arkansas.

Unless your local schools are literally giving the buses away, in my opinion they aren't worth much more than the running gear is worth. I certainly wouldn't take the effort to convert one into anything except for a flatbed truck.

Good luck and happy trails.

Mark O.

They all suck. We just got 1999 AmCrap REs and our 22 yr old underpowered Crown Coach tandems can beat it up a hill they're so bad. Dont bother.

Amtran? Genesis? How old is your information? You need to update very badly. Are u sure the company is still called Amtran? Is the Genesis still manufactured? I think somebody needs to do their homework.
