I think people are wrong about schol bus yelow being illigal unless it is a state to state rule my uncle is a state trooper for wyoming ansd has worked in Idaho colorado and Montna and has never fined anybody for driving a school bus yellow it loooked in the federal regulkation and they only state that the school bus sighns have to be painted black and the stop sighn removed nothing about the lights and nothing about repainting them and he looked under all fedral rules.

It may not be illegal in some states , but the color is reserved for skoolies as a safty matter. A gallon of paint is only $15 plus a $3 roller..
Skoolie yellow will mean almost never being in a commercial campground ,, No money for paint = low class undesirable troubble makers+ no addmittance to private campgrounds!.

In california you have one year to remove the lights, signs, and paint it other than yellow w/black. at a college , we bought one and had to paint it at least 60% white

To me. Being a transit person having my buses being white.. Yellow is a welcome color. Also a 15 dollar can of paint will make the bus look like a real piece of crap! Ever seen a car painted by the back yard expert?? talk about a tacky vehicle! I feel that the yellow is a perfessional paint job and why should it be changed? I see this subject a lot on the web forum. I heard a real good peice of advice from someone can't remember, but those lights could be used for a real good purpose. think about it, you are at a camp ground, and it is dark well turn on those what used to be yellow now white lights volla you have insta porch lights. Same laws apply to ambulances the lights can stay until you flash them and then they must be removed. I HATE when someone paints a vehicle with a paint roller YUCK. keep the yellow you all it is cool. in fact I would love to have a skoolie. I would ad a thousand dollar overdrive between the tranny and the rear end. so in the hills you can keep the low end then when on the highway flip the switch and go the highway speeds. I did that with my land cruiser which was LOW LOW 3000 rpm on that straight 6 at 59 now it is turning 2300 at 70 with the ad on over drive. keep em yellow.
