Rear end gearing Willy 6-27-00
My current rear end ratio is 5.57 Can anyone recommend a higher gear ratio. I have a 5 speed and 1st is lowwww!! I am planning on changing them out. can I get them through Intl. or who? I am currently running 65 at 3200 rpm on a 9.0l intl. diesel. runs great and gets good fuel mileage. but I never use first gear. Thanks for any help.

If you are going to go to IHC and purchased a new gear set, talk to them and ask them for their recommendation.

4:56 would probably be about as fast as you would want to go. Any faster and you may not have low enough gears to get you going on a really steep hill, particularly if you have a toad.

Good luck and happy trails.

Our fleet has the overdrive 10 speeds (rto-910) with 4.11 real ends. at 2100 rpms we have a top speed of around 85. with 300hpp we can pull donner summit at 65
