Vapor Lock on a 370 Ford David G 9-9-07
Hi,
Could someone please advise me on how to stop my 83 Ford 370 engine with electric fuel pump from vapor locking. Took us 7 days to go from Helena Mt. to Austin Texas.

Thanks
DavidG

1 of 2 things typically causes a vapor lock: a kinked or collapsing fuel line/fuel vent line or fuel line running too hot or too close to a source of heat.

Here's what I would suggest. Inspect the fuel lines and the vapor return lines. pull the charcoal canister off the firewall or frame and give it a shake. If the canister rattles, that's one of many possible sources of your vapor lock problem. The electric pump helps a lot to prevent vapor lock, but the vent lines are critical. they need to be clear and free and one of the places they can fail is where the line goes from rubber to steel. Moisture collects and causes rust scale which can block the flow of fuel vapor.

Hope that helps!
