For those that are interested here is the process for registration of a converted school bus as a motor home in Texas.

Upon completion of registration the vehicle will be titled as:

* Motor Home Catagory I (Section 2 )Reconstructed used truck or bus converted to Motor Home.

"Vehicles so constructed must be registered with passenger license plates. The evidence of ownership covering the "chassis and cab" shall determine the make of the vehicle, year model, and vehicle identification number (VIN). The body style shall be shown as "Motor Home".

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

* Photographs of both interior and exterior
* Weight certificate - certified weight slip from a commerical scale.
* Affidavit explaining alterations or Texas Department of Transportation
Form VTR-61
* Application for Texas Cerificate of Title, Texas Department of Transportation Form 130-U
* Existing Title, this title must be surrendered before title can be issued as a motor home.

All Texas Department of Transportation Forms may be downloaded from the following web address:
http://www.dot.state.tx.us/txdot.htm

The Texas Vehicle Title Manual, dated 11-99 also states:

2. Motor Vehicles Adapted to or Designed for Human Habitation (Also, Refer to Figures for pictorial categorization of motor homes.)

c. Used trucks and buses which have been reconstructed to contain living quarters should be titled as Motor Homes and registered with passenger plates. Title applications on such vehicles should be supported by a photograph on the interior and exterior, a weight certificate varifying the gross weight, and an affidavit explaining the alteration. The make, year model, and vehicle identification number shall be the same as that shown on the title covering the truck or bus. (NOTE When the certificate of title is issued for such vehicle, the notation "Reconstructed" shall be recorded thereon.)

Note photographs are contained in the Vehicle Title Manual, which is located in any county tax office or Department of Transportation office.

More information can be located in the Texas Transportation Code 501.0929

How do they interpret "adapted for human habitation". For example, does one need plumbing, tanks, and bathroom fixtures? Does one need kitchen fixtures? Or can ya just fix it up for bare bones living and add that stuff later as needed?

The word is MotorHOME
That is to keep YELLOW JUNKERS
with a 5 gallon bucket as ther S---
Pot off the road.
Also if you've read any bus board,
don't even try to get insurance with a BAREBONES Bus.
