Has anyone ever painted their bus black? Does anyone think a black bus would have heat issues? IS there a way to reduce heat, like using Kool Kote? Also, whats the best way to get a nice glossy paint/look?
Studies were done in FL a few years ago to determine the advantages of white roofs and tinted windows.
The temp difference between the standard National School Bus Chrome Yellow roof and a white roof was more than 20 degrees when the ambient temp was 90 degrees. Adding tinted windows reduced the inside temp an additional five degrees.
I am thinking a totally black bus is going to really cook you when you go to any place hot.
In order to get a nice glossy look you are going to have to do a lot of prep work so the finsih will have a nice smooth surface on which to adhere. Then you are going to have to spend some serious $$$ for the better paint. Fleet black will do but won't be as glossy and won't stay looking as nice nearly as long as the expensive custom paints.
I suppose I have to ask why black? A black car is hard enough to keep looking nice. A black bus is a lot of sheet metal to keep looking nice.
