Code enforcement problems (i don't want to give up my bus) teajay 10-4-06
My neighborhood civic association is trying to "clean this place up" and the city code enforcement office has given me a notice that I cannot have my short school bus on my private, fenced property, because it is supposedly considered a commercial vehicle, even if we had it registered as a recreational vehicle. I want to do everything I can to talk my way out of giving up my bus it is mostly used as a club house for my kids, and occasional hiding place for adults wanting to escape the household mayhem.

I LOVE it! Please help me out with advice if you can.

If it is titled as a private vehicle and the tags indicate a private vehicle there is no law that says they can come in and declare it a commercial vehicle.

I would suggest making sure the tags are currnet and replying to the letter with the statement that the vehicle is neither commercial nor used for commercial purposes. If that doesn't dissuade them, find a lawyer and sue. You have the right to own any vehicle that is for your use and registered in that manner.

Hope that helps!

IF you still have your bus, visit http://www.RollingHomes.org many members to help you answer your problems.

In the mean time you need to convert it to a motor home, get RV plates, paint it from bus colors etc.

Rolling Homes can help there too. I've had the same problem you are or were having, put it as close as you can to the back of your home and put a fence up that can take care of the problem... Let me know if you still have it or what...
