Im new to buses, but not to car restorations. I really know nothing about buses but I figure since I can restore a car from what I have learned on the net I can do this. The deal I am going to get is too good to pass up.
That being said, I dont really know where to begin. I have browsed around for a few days now, looked on eBay, etc. I am trying to figure out the availability of parts but havent found much. Is it hard to find parts for Detroit Diesel motors? What about other systems on the car like air brakes? What about window glass, electronics, and other accouterments? So many questions! Anyway, thanks for your time.
Detroit Deisel, Cummins and Caterpillar are "industry standards", so parts are very available. I reccomend checking with a local deisel repair shop or Detroit Deisel servicer to see if there were any oddball years.
Basic air brake components haven't changed much, so you should also be able to find parts.
Window glass and body parts are harder to find as the vehicle gets older (which is the same for car restoration). Some body manufacturers have gone out of business. Crown busses are very popular, so you should have some support to draw on.
Have 74 crown school bus, tandem axle. Looking for fuel door body side panel, and next panel back, to repair damages from accident. Anyone know of wrecking yards for Crowns, or parts available? Thanks.
