Re: School Bus Insulation by steve
Post New Message I've spent the last three years living in a bus up here in alaska the first winter i froze then wisened up to expanding foam. I had the floor foamed from underneath so i would not loose headroom. There is about 6 inches of foam giving me a r value of 30 and i have also covered the floor on the inside with exercise mats so they are sorta warm to the touch. My ceiling and wall coveringhas been removed as well as the old insulation and the ribs were drilled and filled with foam and i sprayed enough foam to fill the voids between the ribs and skimmed over the ribs so there was no metal contact into the room. The first winter the ice would form on these first so it is important to cover the metal. I did the same with the walls as well. Next I covered all the walls and ceiling with insulated bubble wrap. I made sure to seal all seems real good so no air could move behind the wrap. I live in a space ship but, all this work was necessary to achieve the most r value i could get in the smallest space availabe, and was learned through trial and error. I have been through streches of cold well below zero for weeks and still find it comfortable. Spray foam is the way to go!
