|Hey all, this may have been discussed before but I can't find it. Me and my wife are looking to purchase our 2nd bus sometime in the near future. Our current beast is a 1966 International 392 gas 4 speed Wayne body semi converted inside with a rear 4x8 rear deck and a 8x24 roof deck. It's primamary function in life is 2 trips to M.I.S twice a year and a few weekend camping trips here and there. It suits this purpose just fine. What we're looking for is something to take down to Darlington,Charlotte,etc.,that will have enough balls to hang on those steep grades without being runover by semis.
I was leaning towards something flatnose 66-72 pass. diesel, auto. I really like the look of the Crowns and Gilligs but am partial to any flat nose.
My questions are:
1.What would be the best drivetrain choices for hill climbing(engine,trans,rear end ratio)?
2.What would be the best body type?Year?
3.Air or hydraulic brakes?
4.Basically what would be the ultimate setup for a bus of this nature in the pricerange of say $5000
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
