I am converting a B700 to a full on luxury bus complete with all the goodies including satellite, solar, generator, ac, washer/dryer, convection-microwave, etc. What is the average or estimated resale price for such a thing (provided it is all perfect and pretty). I figure it will cost about $20k to do the conversion properly.

Take a look at www.mobilehomestead.com, www.pettypb.com/bus/, http://www.vonslatt.com/bus-link.shtml and, of course www.mrsharkey.com. Conversions like this run from $10,000 to $20,000. Your budget is on track, but when you add the stigma that busses have at RV parks and how difficult they are to register and insure, even if you can sell it, you may not get all of your investment back. The market you are looking at doesn't want a turn-key (generally) and wants a cheap solution (generally). Want a better Idea? Convert a short bus (or the bus you already have) into a mobile workshop and contract your services out to people who are already working on conversions or who want a conversion done. Your bus conversion makes the best statement about your skills and your experiances would be priceless. Want a better Idea than that? Convert your own bus and document it from start to finish and publish it to the web or publish a book. You'd be a pillar of the community and have a lot of valuable insights to share with Newbies (like myself). Want a still better Idea than that? Convert a bus for yourself and enjoy the heck out of it. Living well is, after all, the best revenge ;-)

While I do applaud the efforts of the persons that have done conversions for their own use, most of them are what gives conversions a bad name. I am not going to build some hippie art bus, there is no way I would ever put a wood stove in one. The closest thing I have seen to what I intend to do is BruinGilda, and while that is an excellent looking conversion it is a step or two down from what I am intending. It is my intention to compete with those "professionally" converted tour busses, like the kind rock stars and anonymous rich people buy. I have seen those listed from 50-450K and that is the market I would like to hit. I want to be able to provide an alternative to someone who is looking to get a $100k Clase A and let them save $25K. I am even looking into what it takes to put my own VIN on the box when it is done, I don't want to sell a "converted 1986 bluebird" I want to sell a "2006 Taylor Custom". BTW, when the bus was big and yellow and looked like a school bus I had no problem at any rv park I went to. It is the hippie busses with the wook stoves that have problems. That being said, your other ideas about contracting out, writing a book, or just plain enjoying it all have merit.

It sounds like you already have a great deal of experiance ;-) As far as your own VIN, I would start with your local BBB or even your local state tax office and see what it takes to get registered as a new car manufacturer. There is an SAE spec for what information a VIN number should contain. Competeing in the class "A" market would be phenomenal; I wish you well!
