|How much weight can it tow?||Bus No. 8||11-30-05|
I have a quick question: how much weight can one safely tow behind a school bus?
Here's what I'm working with:
1989 Thomas Saf-T-Liner MVP-ER (Rear Engine)
200-horsepower Caterpillar 3208 Engine
Allison AT-545 4-speed Automatic Transmission
57+2 W/C Cap. (78 Pax. Cap. Body)
30,000 lbs. G.V.W.R.
I'd like to use it to haul some of my belongings from Indiana to California, and I'd also like to hitch a car hauler or small trailer to the rear of it.
We used to hitch small pick-up trucks and vans to the rears of school buses when we were delivering them new, but I never thought to ask what the weight limit was.
If anyone has any information that may be helpful, please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

|Your GVWR indicates how much total weight your vehicle can move.|
Take your bus to a truck scale and subtract that amount from 30,000. That's how much you can move as a rule of thumb.
Hope that helps!

|The GVWR= Gross Vehicule Weight Rating, is the weight the vehicule can carry on the tire/axel. The Combined Gross Vehicule Weight Rating include the towed weight.|
And a 30 GVWR school bus can take a LOT & A LOT of souvenirs with you.
I got a 72 with a gas engine, use to tow a G30 van full of tools from NH to FL & is rated 26500.

|My bus weighs 19,000 lbs, and I can't even feel it if I have 4-5000 lbs of trailer behind me. Don't need any brakes either, the bus' system stops just fine.|
