I just bought a bus. I know almost nothing about buses. I needed some storage space and the bus was cheaper than a shed. It was flooded and was sold to a friend doing debris removal for Katrina. I have been searching the web for a few hours trying to findout anything I can about this particular bus. This place seems to have a strong knowlege base. I would like to see what you can tell me about this bus. Its a 77 bluebird on a chevy chassis. It has an 8.2 liter detroit that had less than 5k miles on the rebuild. It has a allsion trans but I don't know what type. It looks like a profesional conversion into an RV. It has storage compartments under the floor with panel doors on the side of the bus just like a modern greyhound. It also has a holding tank and a water tank. There is an old Generator built in to a compartment. There is a steal platform on top of the bus with a ladder leading up from the back. The floor is welded steal plates. It has side stacks for exaust. Can anyone lead me to some info on 70's model conversions on this type of bus?
I'd really like to see some pictures of this set up! I bet the stacks are Kewl beyond belief!
If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say your chassis is some variant of the P-series (P20, P30, etc) that GM used for delivery trucks and other medium duty apps. Helm is the publisher for shop manuals for GM, but I don't know if you'll find anything useful for that year. Helm is at http://www.helminc.com
I have been pouring over all the links I have found in old threads. Seems like my bus is pretty darn cool as schoolies go. right now I am trying to figure out the proper interior layout. With the elevated floor, things seem more cramped than I would have thought. After a toilet, shower and kithchen are I want have much room for bunks.
I've been reading up on schoolie conversioins all day. Seems as though alot of the hard work has already been done. I will have to do the interior. The genorator is gas and is currently still full of water. The first month will be all about cleaning. All the tanks are full of flood debris. She has a few small dents and scratches but she'll clean up pretty well.
If it was flooded make sure to change all fluids and re-grease everything asap. Hopefully this was already done and I'm just preaching to the chior. Water will kill your axles (bearings, gears, etc.)

I can offer advice on most diesel/mechanical stuff. I've owned about 60 buses, have driven all of them at one time or another, and have dismanled about 14. (Only interesting until about the third one, then it begins to seem like work.)
I've been working on trucks and buses continually now for abut the last twenty years, and on buses for the past 15, so I can usually help anyone with findng an answer.
