B-700 School Bus Ignition switch Anubis 10-4-05
Hi all,

Been having a little problem lately.

Sometimes she starts and sometimes she doesn't.

New:

Starter, Solenoid, Voltage regulator, batteries, alternator.

Sound like the ignition switch ?

If so, how hard is it to replace ?

Thanks,

Anubis

The switch is the only thing left. I'm thinking it's pretty easy if you have the switch at the base of the steering column. If this is the case, you want to pay close attention to the shaft that moves the switch; It has a nasty habit of rusting tight.

If the steering column is real skinny and is all steel, the switch is at the base of the column, just off the floor.

Do yourself a favor and check for loose terminals in the plug and check that the shaft that moves the switch moves *VERY* freely.

Hope that helps!

+ don't forget to check the shut off selenoid on the governor tower, the wires break easy because of the engine's vibration, unless you have a cable to pull the engine off.

Hi,

So the switch itself is not connected directly to the key switch ?

That would be great. I thought I was going to have to pull the steering wheel and column apart.

Thanks,

Anubis

Don't get too happy, yet ;-)

If that shaft is jammed or full of rust, you WILL need to pull the steering wheel off to clean all the garbage out.

From the medium to HD stuff that I worked on, it was typical for the switch to be at the base of the column rather than attached to the key cylinder.
