Detroit 671TI Ed 2-6-05
I have a 380 luhrs with twin 671TI. I've always ran the motor easy and never hard. Changed the oil wipe it down (no airseps). I was wondering how many hours can I expect before rebuilt? Need to know when to start saving money or working second job. Now it has 1600 HRS.
Thanks

Heh. That's literally a Sherman tank engine - that's where the first ones went. Yours is turbo of course :).

It is one TOUGH motor. 300,000mi between rebuilds is very common in bus service and they often go double that or more. We see buses for sale all the time from the 1950s (GMC 4104, etc.) with the original motor, never rebuilt, runs just fine.

About the only thing that will hurt 'em (other than running them dry or something) is to not run them at all for years with improper storage and then start 'em up with rusty cylinder bores. Rings will be dead inside of 200mi or so.
