|Exterior Wood Shingles||Dub Dee||2-3-05|
|I have a converted bus that stays parked most of the time. I'm looking for information about how to shingle the exterior with wood shingles. The only info I have found so far was discouraging saying how it would not work good going down the road at 50 mph. Any ideas on this? How about application? What type of construction is needed to not make it prone to water seeping in the screw holes?|

Micheal has put wood paneling on the exterior of his bus and can probably give you some tips.

|Don't do it. Aesthetically pretty, but why would you want to add all that weight and permanantly damage the existing metal panels? Eventually, wood rots, no matter how you coat it. There is no good way to fasten wood shingles to a vehicle; I experimented with that in the early '70s on a wooden pickup camper I built on a '50 Ford F1 that I had restored. Ended up using plain 1/2" plywood, and made it decorative by adding wood shutters for the windows and a dutch door on the rear. It was still too heavy.|
