I am wanting to purchase a bus to convert instead of buying a factory camper. I am a carpenter. I need int. measurements height and width so I can compare. I am afraid to go measuring a bus in todays day an time.,
A standard bus interior is 8 foot wide and 6 feet tall. Some busses are 8.5 feet wide, but that is non-standard. The interior can be anywhere from 10 feet long (van conversion) to about 35 feet long (66 to 72 passenger bus). Standard *exterior* length is 39.5 feet (class "B" CDL).
I want the longest standard body school bus made to convert into a rolling bar/lounge for a national tour. How long would this be and which manufacturers should I look for when purchasing. Any information as to body, chassis or engine type that would be best to focus on would be helpful. Also, if there is anyone out there who would like to contract a conversion job such as this, I would love to hear from you. The bus will be featured on a nationally running tv advertisement and will travel the country with a number of tv personalities.
The biggest busses I have seen have been the 84 passenger models made by Ward/Amtran, Bluebird and Thomas. these are "Pusher" or "Puller" busses (cabover with the motor in the back or front respectively). What is considered a "standard" bus (looks like a typical school bus) tops out at 72 passengers.
