Hi, my friends and I purchased a bus on ebay that is located in Ohio. We are planning on picking it up in Ohio and driving back to Arizona, and work on converting it in Arizona. Is there an easy way to get insurance, titled, registered for just the drive back? And do we drive it back unregistered from Ohio until we get to Arizona?.......not sure if that made sense.
Thanks all
I can't speak to Ohio's DMV, but I *CAN* let you know how it would work in Colorado. When you buy the bus, go to the local DMV and get it titled; They will issue a "tempy" plate and that will allow you to travel. If you have insurance, call them and add the VIN number of the bus to your policy (Colorado allows the bus to be registered as a "Recreational Truck"). The Title in Ohio can reflect your Arizona address, but you will have to transfer the title to Arizona to get Arizona plates (at least this is how it worked NJ to CO). If you don't have insurance, you will need to call around to see what your options are.
The info Phil gave is pretty much the way to do it. I live in northern ohio and upon buying the bus take the title work to the nearest registrar (title office). In rural areas just go to the county license bureau c ause they usually have a title office next door. As long as you DO NOT do the change over of title (and the titlte has been looked over and notarized by a licensed notary) the office will only require the nominal purchase of a 30 day temporary tag and you will have to sign a statement that you do have insurance. That's about it and you are on your way! Good luck!
