Saw an ad for a 1947 flexible that has been converted to a big block chevy gas with an AT. Is this wild? Would it be safe?
Re: flexible freaks Phil Feinstein 7-21-04
Is it wild? Maybe. Big block and an AT is a standard set-up for a pick up truck. Sounds like a great Idea for a towing or traveling machine. Probably makes more sense than the old "Flathead" in terms of parts availability.

Is it safe? I'd have to see it first. When you make a vehicle faster and more powerful you have to upgrade your steering, suspension and brakes. Throwing a new driveline in doesn't automatically make a vehicle unsafe but if a conversion isn't done properly anything can become a hazard. I'd expect to see the old "Jelly jar" replaced with a real dual circuit brake system and the steering tight and serviceable; shackles greased and suspension rubber solid and not cracking.

Hope that helps!

That gasoline v-8 conversion sounds interesting is there a place to write or a website to find out how the conversion was done. I have heard of several 350 chevy and turbo 350 tranny conversions but noone talks about how it was done. I am looking at a 47 Flxible with what I believe is a Detroit Diesel and standard tranny which needs a power plant replacement.
Any help would be appreciated!!!!!
