|How to identify an International Engine||Jeff S||2-16-04|
I'm looking a converted bus and am trying to find out how to identify the diesel engine.
Any suggestions? Is there a block code somewhere? Anything?

I own an IH and the engine size is located at the front of the motor on the pasanger side just under and infront of the exaust manifold.
My IH is a 345 but you may have a 354 or a 392.
I just bought a brand new 345 motor from recon motors through Auto Zone. (paid $1550.00). Also a brand new radiator ($200.00) and a new water pump and fuel pump... actually just about everything under the hood is brand new.
Check out my bus at http://www.geocities.com/capttrips25

I believe that the engine serial number is located on a machined pad between the oil cooler and flywheel.

Also on most of the engines theres a sticker in the valve cover that says what size it is you can tell a 9.0litre by the look of it the valve covers on them. they are cast iron and international is engraved in them there worthless engines. the 7.3 v-8 usually has the air cleaner on top of the engine like a a old car engine as the rest of the diesels have the air cleaner remote mounted on the passenger side firewall. the 6.9 I-6 doesnt have a turbo charger on the passenger side of the engine and looks like its to small to be under the hood. the DT-466 I-6 has a turbo charger on the passenger side of the engine. i hope this is helpful to you. i think i explained every diesel international put in there buses from the late 70s-early 90s
