Well Ron we use a 6 gallon electric hot water heater in our Gillig conversion. It is a 120V unit and is plugged into a 30amp line. Our kitchen and bath is back to back so the water doesn't go very far. Hope this helps.
I have an 8 person hot tub in my bus, and i use engine coolant to heat the 400 gallons of water. it would be really easy to use the same idea for plain "hot water". Basically, i took the old rear bus heater after taking the fans off of it (and cleaning it up) I submerged the heater core in water. If you were to put the heater or just a long length of flexible copper tubing of large diameter into an insulated tank, you'd have your own cheap and efficient hot water heater. I 55 gallon drum sprayed with foam insulation, then wrapped in fiberglass insulation and put in a room would make a good hot water heater, as long as you didn't put the 55 gal drum under pressure.
