You should find the service manual for IHC-Navistar-or whatever they call themselves these days. It would be for a Medium Duty Truck. Used book stores are a good bet. Vintage-books.com is where I got mine.
IHC diesels would be your best bet. Find a salvage yard that will work with you. It may take some time and a few purchases to build this sort of relationship.
Figure out what SAE size bell housing is on your transmission. The fly wheel housing on the new engine will have to match it.
When you buy the engine, get it as a clip if possible. This will get you everything from the radiator on back still in the frame.
With so many good used trucks and buses for sale around the country, it may actually be easier and less expensive to purchase a bus or truck with the running gear you desire and swap everything into your bus.
I'm pretty sure it can be done. I know compression ratio is very important,injectors and the computer, maybe valve timing. Also i know a turbo of some sort would probably be necessary. Please contact me if you would like to discuss ideas. Sincerely josh
Are ford and chevy dielsel motors converted from gas to diesel. How are the engines made...originally diesel. I heard from a friend that they are gas converted, but I have never heard of that, is it true??
