Gas tank smell..... Shawn 7-13-03
I fixed a tiny hole in my 50 gal. tank
with JB weld. (1978 Chevy c/60 chassis. The repair appears to be very successful.

However, I can still detect a gas fume odor below the tank. Cant pinpoint the source... it is mysterious. Tank looks real good and there is no rust.

I resealed the tank drain plug with teflon tape after I drained the tank for the repair. Is is possible the teflon is wicking enough gas to allow an evaporation odor, without showing any sign of a leak?

Could I have a bad "vent"? (Cant find a vent anywhere in system... duuhhh )

ANy ideas from you bus pros will be appreciated. Thanks, Shawn

Well I found the odor, it was indeed the teflon tape/glue combo. Will drain tank and reseal plug with permatex thread sealer this time.
