Hello I am experiencing some difficulty with the Holly carb on my 1979 GMC bus. It has a 366 v8, std trans. After it is warm and I shut it down for a few minutes and then restart it and attempt to drive it it will idle but the accelerator will not raise the engine rpm's. It is as if the throttle plates will not open although I can depress the throttle to the floor. Is this a govenor problem? The bus will idle for a while and then when it has achieved it's lowest idle it will respond but when I shift it will not work again until the idle is once again as low as it can go. Can anyone help? This may be way off, but judging by your description I had a similar problem with the Holley carb on my '84 Int'l 345. I could literally stand on the accelerator and the gas pedal and bus would barely move. I don't have a parts manual so can only guess at the part name, but I found an "ancillary throttle tension/return spring" (real heavy duty) had worn to the point where it was no longer rotating with the throttle cable--it was binding in the linkage. There was already a "normal" throttle spring on the carb, so I took the malfunctioning piece off and the problem was fixed! I suspect the piece served as a governor of some type, preventing or minimizing rapid acceleration and school district liability(?) Anyway, if your carb has a similar piece you may want to check its operation or just remove it regardless. Gas pedal now operates easily and smoothly like a car's. Scott

Had the same problem on a 84 chev 366 carpenter pulled the choke out a little bit and had acceleration again. I have the return spring off and it still did it.

I have a 650 holly on a 350 chevy stock. ican not get adjusted to stop over feuling the motor. got any ideas. thanks for your help

It sounds to me like you have a governor problem. On the right front of the carb, there will be a round can pointing forward, this is the governor. Find the connector in the wire leading to this and unplug it. The governor will no longer be able to limit engine RPM's but if you have an overspeed light it will still work. Pay attention to it so you don't blow your engine.
