|Crown bus windshield and parts found!||Patrick Young/Wheelchair Project||5-9-03|
|Recently someone saw my name on the Net, and called to ask about Crown windshields. Crown made two types, a very ordinary windhield that was flat and came in 4 parts, and then a beautiful curved "scenic cruiser" 2 piece wihdshield that must have come from a Very Fancy mold.|
The first type can be had or cut anywhere, and the second type is as rare as a spotted owl at a logger's jamboree.
I had to tell the fellow that I didn't have one, and had only seen one Crown in my life that had this type of windshield...... so then I started looking for one. And didn't find any.
Crown apparently is also out of business, and didn't save the molds.
But as luck would have it, I went to buy a tailgate lift for my Datsun, (1978 Datsun KingCab, 5 speed, 49,000 original miles, just bought it, smogged, for 650 bucks!! Course she lowered the price when I refused to return her false teeth and heart medicine) and lo and behold what did I come across but a 1970's Crown with the curved windshield, exactly a day after a fellow called from Northern Calif and said he could only find a "pair of windshields that were 1/4" too snmll, and on top of that the guy wanted $1400
(yes that's a real figure) for both.
Plus they weren't out of a bus, but a fire truck.
(Perhaps that explained why he was getting "Hosed". I guess the windshield's price should have been a "Cause for Alarm"......Maybe they're a "Hot Item"? I personally would have been "Seeing Red"....)
Well to make a long story langer, I'm gonna try and buy the bus. It is in OK shape, has some broken windows and headlights, some parts have been robbed, but apparently it is a runner and has a 6-71 Detroit and an Allison 4 speed.
I don't like automatics, even though Allisons are good, (Most folks who prefer this set up are sort of shifltess in my opinion) but I love the Detroits.
So, If I get the bus, I will be stealing parts faster than 10 accountants for Enron. If anybody needs something, give me an e-mail. I should know by about the 20th of May.
Keep the peace
Under, above, around or inside some bus somewhere

I saw your posting where you have some crown parts. I am looking for a lense for one of the rear running lights on a 59 crown eagle. The lights are bullet shaped and have a deep dished glass lense. I need a red lense for one of these lights.
I am also interested in taking out the allison 4 spd and converting my bus to the roadranger RTO 910. Any suggestions as who could tackle a job like this? The bus has a 671 detroit in it.
