Are split rims a good kind of wheel? Are tube type tires easy to get?

Where do you get the single piece rims...and how expensive are they?

Split rims do an adequate job.
As it has been said before, split rims can be dangerous to put together. This is definitely not a job for the unskilled or unknowing.
Any tire with a tube inside is going to run hotter than a tubeless. No matter how well the tube is installed inside of the tire, it will have some movement which contributes heat.
The last tires I purchased, it actually cost me almost the same to purchase new tubeless tires on used rims than it was to purchase re-caps and new tubes to put on my old split rims. The tubes cost more than what the used rims cost.
As time goes by, tube type tires are going to become things of the past. As things become obsolete, the price is going to go up. The last time I checked, a 9:00X20 tire and tube cost about 50% more than a 10RX20 tire.
Having said all that, I would not run out and junk all of my split rims. I would run out the tires I had and the next time I needed tires I would convert over to tubeless the next time I needed tires.

Split Rims are O.K. they will run fine on your rig, however they are really dangerous to repair. some shops won't work on them cuz of insurance reasons. if you can find newer wheels that are one piece you'd be happier in the long run, you can run radials on them and get rid of the need for tubes. Tubes only run w/ Bias-ply tires, so are not preffeable but if your on a budjet will be cheaper. and tubes and appropreate tires can be found anywhere Commercial trucks go for service, usually located near a Freeway (such as a truck stop, allthough a truck stop will be more exsensive than a shop.) try asking a Owner opperator in you area where they go,they will have shopped around.
hope this helps _Beorn the bus bear.

IMHO split rims suck. WE had a flat with ours. Somehow a rock got between the tube and the tire. When we got new tires we got one piece rims. Gotta like those tubless tires.
And you can run radial tires with tubes. At least we had tube type radials on our bus when we got it. But the tubless are still better.
Good tires cost money. But good tires and good brakes are cheap insurance.

Loose the split rims. Unless you want to fix them yourself an carry a safety cage with you to put the wheel in when inflating.(about 400lbs)

No..try a truck salvage yard. you can get used good tires on the rim for a purchace price that you would have paid for rims alone. you can upgrade to aluminum rims and doll up you rig at the same time..
